The Oregon-Brooklyn Satellite is a group of volunteers committed to carrying out the Habitat mission to build simple, decent, affordable housing. Members of the Oregon-Brooklyn satellite partner with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County in the planning, family selection and building of a local Habitat home. They have built 10 affordable homes in the Oregon-Brooklyn communities, four in 2010. Their members are some of the original founders of the Dane County chapter.
In 2012, construction is expected to begin on one of two duplexes in the Village of Brooklyn. The duplexes are located on a lot on Second Street in the village. A story about the build was recently published in the Oregon Observer.
The 2010 homes were built with the Trinidad Family and was sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the second home built with the Borntrager/Miller Family was led by students taking a yearlong home construction class from Oregon High School, the third home was sponsored by churches in the community (see Apostles Build below); and the fourth home was sponsored by area businesses and Habitat for Humanity of Dane County and Oregon-Brooklyn donors.
