About HYP
Who We Are
The Habitat Young Professionals [HYP] of Dane County
is a diverse group of young professionals who share resources, time and talents
to make a difference in the Madison community. We are dedicated to improving
the world around us by helping families through giving a hand up not a hand
out. HYP is building the next generation of Habitat volunteers, donors, and
leaders. We host regular social hours, fundraising and volunteer opportunities.
Join us in our mission, and network for a cause!
History of HYP
The first Habitat Young Professionals groups started at the Cincinnati Habitat for Humanity
Affiliates in 2005 and in Austin in 2006. HYP of Dane County is one of 22 Habitat Young
Professional groups around the country. The HYP Dane County Steering Committee began
meeting in early 2009 and was composed of individuals interested in expanding
Young Professionals’ involvement in Habitat. HYP of Dane County was founded in November of
2009. A HYP Board of Directors was appointed in September of 2010.
In one year The Habitat Young Professionals of
Dane County has raised over $30,000 and recruited 36 active members range in age
from early 20’s to late 30’s. The HYP volunteer committee recruited volunteers
hosting nine HYP build days on Habitat Sites and reaching out to partner with
the Salvation Army and Project Home. HYP volunteers logged well over 1000 hours
in 2010.
The
HYP Events committee organized multiple successful fundraising and social
events. Including monthly themed social hours, HYP water station at the Madison
Marathon, The Professional Challenge Golf Outing held in June, and our 2nd
Annual HYP Wine Tasting & Membership Drive held in November.
