The Djergou Family Djergou Family Our family is from Togo, West Africa. I married my wife, Aku, on March 24, 2000. In 2002, I won the lottery to get a green card to America. This is something only people in my country dream about. Well, my dream came true. I moved here in 2003. Coming to America was more difficult than I expected. I spoke little English and was having a difficult time finding a good job. Due to the language barrier, my wife and son, Kevin, had to wait a long time to jump through all the hoops with immigration. They finally are here and moved to American in February 2009. We are a family again. An American dream is to be a homeowner. This seemed like it would never come true until I learned about Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. It will be so great to own our own home. It will be a great investment for our family and our future. We will take pride in building our home. My name is Faustin and I am 37 years old. When I moved to America, I worked several hard, low paying jobs just to make ends meet. As my English improved, I was able to take and pass the certified nursing assistant course. I now work as a certified nursing assistant at UW Hospital on the transplant unit. Aku is 27 years old. She is spending lots of time learning the language and culture of America. She says she is so happy that her family is together again and looks forward to having more children. Kevin, our son, is a very kind and active seven-year old. He will be starting second grade this fall. He is adjusting well to America and Madison. His English is developing quickly. He loves to swim and play with his friends. We thank God, Habitat and all the volunteers for this wonderful opportunity. It really is a dream come true!!
