2. If you are a member of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Thrivent offers a 50 percent match for your gift to Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. This Thrivent Giving program provides $1 for every $2 a member donates to Habitat for Humanity International or Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. Thank you for your consideration.

3. The Habitat ReStore accepts new and used building-related materials from contractors, suppliers, individuals, remodelers and property managers. Some materials are used directly in the construction of Habitat homes, but most are offered to the general public to purchase at reduced prices. The ReStore now accepts and sells appliances including refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers and upright freezers. The appliances should be in good working order and no more than five years old.

Wanted — Used and surplus materials, fixtures, tools and supplies:

  • Appliances in good working order, less than 10 years old (no dishwashers or chest freezers)
  • Cabinets, up-to-date and not damaged
  • Plumbing, usable fixtures, parts and supplies
  • Electrical, useable fixtures, parts and supplies
  • Windows, insulated glass, no broken glass, no sashes accepted
  • Hardware, knobs, hinges, locks, nails, cabinet pulls, nuts, bolts, screws
  • Lumber, at least 6' in length
  • Doors with jambs No broken glass
  • Roofing, no scrap materials please!
  • Carpet, no used carpet, no stains or odors
  • Tools, hand, garden, working power
  • Flooring, wood, ceramic tile, vinyl
  • Millwork/trim, wood casing and base, vinyl base, ceramic
  • Miscellaneous, masonry, sheathing, siding, drywall supplies

    Items the Habitat ReStore does not accept:
  • lead-based materials
  • used toilets
  • tub surrounds
  • paint, stain, or varnish
  • toxic materials
  • blinds
  • wallpaper
  • furniture
  • broken items
  • dishwashers
  • chest freezers
  • carpet pad
  • fireplaces
  • shutters
  • aluminum or vinyl siding
  • window parts or pieces
  • storm windows
  • pieces under 6' long of materials, such as lumber, drywall, styrofoam, etc.

Seeking Landscaping Supplies: A Green Team Wish List
To help landscape the Habitat homes, the Green Team seeks the following:

  • A-one person operated power auger/earth drill
  • Spreaders
  • Garden carts (with flat bottoms, removable sides and big wheels)
  • Shovels
  • Spades
  • Garden rakes
  • Big watering containers (30-50 gallon)
  • Long-handled weeders and cultivators
  • Roto tiller
  • Garden hoses

4. At Habitat for Humanity there are many volunteer opportunities. All it takes is a desire to make a difference in the lives of families. There are tasks for highly skilled construction professionals at our Habitat homes; retail, stocking and deconstruction work at the Habitat ReStore; and office assistance work at our main office. Most of these tasks only require a willingness to learn and an ability to work with others.No matter what your skills, HFHDC will match you where you can best serve. To begin making a difference contact volunteer coordinator Lisa Delany at 255-1549. You must be 16 years of age or older to volunteer.
