Habitat for Humanity
Since its founding in 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Dane County has built and then sold at no profit, 190 homes to owners in need of quality housing. Habitat believes that the cycle of poverty can be broken by homeownership, because home ownership increases pride and self-esteem, which in turn leads to an increase in employment.  Studies have shown that adequate housing fundamentally transforms the life of children who can eat, play, and sleep in a clean, healthy, and safe environment. When provided a safe living environment, children have higher achievement test scores and fewer issues with behavioral problems.
