The Family Story

The Bates Family

Our family came into the United States of America as a refugee from Bosnia 15 years ago. Our lovely family consists today of only two members: my mom and me. It was bigger when my dad was alive. He died from Alzheimer’s three years ago. We have quite a large extended family as well but only the two of us live together in our apartment.

My mother’s name is Branka. She is 77 years old. I enjoy spending time with her and take care of her. She has been diagnosed with dementia and needs help with her daily activities but is still independent.

We live a simple and modest life for the past 15 years in Madison. We would like to thank each and every one of you who support our home building journey with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.
