Process for Review
Applications are reviewed by volunteers from the HFHDC Family Selection Committee. Their recommendations are presented to the Board of Directors for final selection. Although HFHDC is a Christian-based organization, it abides by all housing rules and regulations and does not discriminate based on a person’s age, disability, lawful income source, national origin, sexual orientation, race, ancestry, family arrangement, color, gender, marital status, or religion. Family selection considers an applicant’s willingness to work 350“sweat equity” hours in the construction of their home and the homes of other Habitat families. Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria:
Housing references
- Income stability
- Credit status
- Criminal background review
- Need for adequate housing
- Willingness to partner
- Overall family need
After an initial screening, a home visit is scheduled with members of the HFHDC Family Selection Committee. The home visit is an opportunity to answer questions, to explain the construction process, and to begin formulating a recommendation for selection as a future Habitat for Humanity building partner and homeowner. The Committee’s recommendations are brought to the Board of Directors for final approval.
Timeline for Application Review
We are a volunteer organization and the process may not go as quickly as you would like. The application process usually takes 6-8 weeks after receipt of the application. You will be notified in writing when the process has been completed. |
