Habitat for Humanity Seeking Families; Obama Bill Offers $8,000 Tax Credit April 14, 2009 Habitat for Humanity of Dane County will celebrate the completion ofits 150th home this Sunday, the first of possibly as many as 15 homeowners that could benefit from President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The bill signed by the president in February provides an $8,000 tax credit to individuals and families buying their first home. To be eligible for the $8,000 grant, buyers need to close on their home from Jan. 1, 2009 through Nov. 30, 2009. To qualify for the Obama tax credit, individuals must have annual incomes no greater than $75,000 and families no greater than $150,000. All Habitat homeowners in Dane County would qualify for the full amount of the credit. A minimum income of $25,000 is required for families who build with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. For a family of four, the maximum income is $48,000. Those interested in learning more about Habitat for Humanity of Dane County and how they can own a home at 0 percent interest, should attend one of the following upcoming informational meetings: Wednesday, April 15, 6:30 p.m., Boys & Girls Club of Dane County, 4705 Jenewein Dr., off Allied Drive, Madison Sunday, April 19, 6:30 p.m., Warner Park Rec. Center, 1625 Northport Dr., Madison Habitat for Humanity of Dane County is seeking several families for single family homes, town homes and duplexes that will be constructed on the North Side of Madison, Middleton, Oregon and South East Madison. It is estimated that two to four families will likely have their home completed by Nov. 30, 2009 and be eligible for the credit.
