Habitat for Humanity Seeking Families; Obama Bill Offers $8,000 Tax Credit

Habitat for Humanity of Dane County will celebrate the completion of
its 150th home this Sunday, the first of possibly as many as 15
homeowners that could benefit from President Obama's American Recovery
and Reinvestment Act.

The bill signed by the president in February provides an $8,000 tax
credit to individuals and families buying their first home. To be
eligible for the $8,000 grant, buyers need to close on their home from
Jan. 1, 2009 through Nov. 30, 2009. To qualify for the Obama tax credit, individuals must have annual incomes no greater than $75,000 and families no greater than $150,000. All Habitat homeowners in Dane County would qualify for the full
amount of the credit. A minimum income of $25,000 is required for families who build with Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. For a family of four, the maximum income is $48,000.

Habitat for Humanity of Dane County is seeking several families for
single family homes, town homes and duplexes that will be constructed
on the North Side of Madison, Middleton, Oregon and South East
Madison. It is estimated that two to four families will likely have
their home completed by Nov. 30, 2009 and be eligible for the credit.
