Habitat for Humanity of Dane County Homeowners Prepare for Moving Day

(MAZOMANIE, WI) – The first home to be built in Mazomanie by Habitat for Humanity of Dane County will be blessed on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. The West Dane Chapter of Habitat for Humanity of Dane County will celebrate the completion of the home with the new homeowners, Jason and Rachel O’Connell and their three children.

The celebration will include a short House Blessing ceremony, refreshments and a tour of the new home built at 419 State St., Mazomanie.

“As a family on a very small income, we truly appreciate the opportunity to give our children a “home,” said Rachel O’Connell. “There would be no other way aside from Habitat for Humanity of Dane County that we could afford a home with the space we need for our family in this day and age, so this opportunity is truly a miracle and a huge, huge blessing for us. Thank you.”

The home is sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and its Thrivent Builds program. The O’Connell family spent 350 “sweat equity” hours helping build their home. On Nov. 20, they will purchase the home from Habitat for Humanity of Dane County on a 0 percent interest loan.
