Five Families to Close on their Home in Time for the Holidays

December 21, 2009

What: Habitat for Humanity of Dane County to Close on 5 Homes for 5 Families
When: Tuesday, Dec. 22, 9 a.m.
Where: Community Title, 2923 Marketplace Dr., Fitchburg

(Dane County, Wisconsin) -- Eight children will be waking up Christmas morning in a new home this holiday season, thanks to the generosity of hundreds of volunteers, their parent’s sweat equity and businesses such as Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Five families will close on their home on Tuesday, Dec. 22 at 9 a.m. at Community Title, 2923 Marketplace Dr., Fitchburg.

The O’Connell family thought they would never celebrate Christmas in their own home. With a five-member family on a very small income, they said they truly appreciate the opportunity to give their three children a home. “Without Habitat, there would be no other way that we could afford a home with the space we need for our family in this day and age, so this opportunity is truly a miracle and a huge, huge blessing for us,” said Rachel, whose home is located in Mazomanie. “We can’t wait to make memories in our home of our first Christmas.”

Lisa Lalley said she received news that she was accepted into the Habitat for Humanity program days before Christmas 2008, now she is ready to close on her Madison home just three days before Christmas.  “I am personally so excited to take on a new home at this time of year,” said Lisa, a mother of one. “If it weren’t for Habitat for Humanity, it may have been several years before my son and I would have been able to own a home. Thank you again Habitat and all of the fantastic volunteers.”

Jamie Roehling agrees saying the one dream for her son, besides good health, “was to be able to provide a home for him, not an apartment, but a place to say is our own!”  The Roehlings will be living in Madison.

Christina Beld and her two children will move into their Freese Lane home in Madison with the hope that her family will now know the stability of a home. Beld works at Greater Insurance Service as an Association Administration Assistant and she says her daughter is thrilled to finally have her own closet. “I can’t say how thankful we are to Habitat for Humanity and all the volunteers involved for helping to make our dreams become reality,” said Beld.

Briceyda Trinidad said her growing up years were difficult because her mother worked two, three jobs and she barely saw her. “Habitat is one more blessing in our lives. They are giving me the opportunity to own my home. I won’t have to work two jobs to afford my mortgage,” said Briceyda.  “Knowing that I will not be missing out on my child’s life is a true blessing.” The Trinidads are moving to Oregon.
