Green Building, Alternative Power Focus of Habitat ReStore Earth Day Celebration

MADISON – Green building and alternative power sources will be the focus at the 2010 Habitat ReStore Earth Day Celebration. Learn from the experts and incorporate “green living” into your life at the Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 24, noon to 4 p.m., at the Habitat ReStore, 208 Cottage Grove Road.  

Wind, solar and alternative fuels are just a few of the earth-friendly presentations that will be held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. In addition, the free event features 20 exhibitors on eco friendly landscaping products and artists selling salvaged art. This free event is open to the public and includes refreshments, plenty of Earth Day activities for families and live music with Buttons and Banjo.

Exhibitors include: Artisan Exteriors, Blair Lawnscape, Clean Sweep, Olbrich Gardens, Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, Sustain Dane, MG&E, Full Spectrum Solar, PrairieFire BioFuels Coop, City of Madison, Willy Street Coop, Welz Farm,  Gemini Rescape, Shooting Star Landscape, Claire the Cat, Java Cat, Good Oak Ecological Services, Troy Gardens, Zenn Neighborhood Electric Vehicle and Edgewood College.  

The Habitat ReStore is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  More information can be found at www.restoredane.org.

The mission of the Habitat ReStore to keep reusable materials out of the landfill and to help Habitat for Humanity build more homes with low income families here in Dane County.

Habitat for Humanity of Dane County provides simple, decent, affordable housing for families who might not otherwise become homeowners. Eligible families pay monthly mortgage payments on a 0% interest loan, and contribute from 325 to 350 hours of sweat equity in the building of their homes. Habitat homeowners build their homes.
