Urban Neighborhood Initiative
The Habitat for Humanity of Dane County (HFHDC) Urban Neighborhood Initiative will serve more families at lower economic levels through rehabbing or building new homes in Madison's urban neighborhoods. It will provide affordable new/rehabbed infill housing in Madison for families who earn 30-60 percent of the Dane County medium income level with opportunities for families at the lower end of that income range to own their own home. Using the Habitat model, they will purchase these homes through a 0% mortgage. The goal is to make sure their monthly payments will be less than they are currently paying in rent.
A generous $1 million lead gift for Urban Neighborhood Initiative from long-time Habitat volunteers Bill and Jan DeAtley combined with $1 million in additional funds to be raised by HFHDC from businesses, churches and individuals will be used to rehab or build a minimum of 30 units with qualified families over the next three years.
