UW-Madison Campus Chapter-Habitat for Humanity of Dane Co. The University of Wisconsin-Madison Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter was formed in 1993. A campus chapter of Habitat has three main goals: to fundraise, to build and to educate others about poverty housing.
To Fundraise The chapter holds its largest fundraiser -- the Souper Bowl the Saturday before the NFL's Super Bowl game. The cost is $15 which includes your choice of a ceramic handmade bowl. The cost includes soup and sides and great entertainment. The Family Meal Plan is also available at a cost of $35, which includes two ceramic bowls and four meals.
To Build The chapter just started work on its 12th home with the Vang/Cheng family on Dane Street in Madisonl.
To Educate This chapter is among a small group of college chapters nationwide that fund and build a house annually. The UW chapter has received a national award from Habitat International for its innovative programs. Some members of the student chapter build with other affiliates of Habitat for Humanity during both spring and winter breaks. The chapter also co-sponsors events such as housing panels on the problems of affordable housing and homelessness in Dane County. For more information go to www.uwhabitat.org.
