Habitat ReStore Volunteer Opportunities

General Volunteer Information

The Habitat ReStore is a fun and rewarding place to volunteer. Our volunteer base is mixed; students, retirees and folks who are still working but want to contribute to the work of Habitat for Humanity of Dane County. All proceeds from the Habitat ReStore are used to support home building in Dane County.

The Habitat ReStore is open Wednesday through Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. We have two volunteer shifts per day: the early one from 9 - 2 and the afternoon shift from 2 to 6.

We ask for a minimum commitment of three months from every volunteer, with a weekly or bi-weekly shift during that time.

All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

ReStore Warehouse Volunteers (Wednesday - Saturday)
The majority of volunteers needed at the Habitat ReStore are warehouse volunteers. They prepare, stock, and display donated materials as well as assist in loading customer purchases. All these tasks are completed while maintaining a clean and safe working environment. The warehouse volunteers work both independently and as a team.

Cashier and Sales Volunteers (Wednesday - Saturday)
Cashiers are vital to the Habitat ReStore operation. They are often the first and last faces seen by ReStore customers. Cashiers are here to greet customers in a friendly and helpful manner, answer the telephone, assist customers in locating material, and of course operate the cash register.

Sales volunteers work throughout the store, assisting customers and offering advice on building related questions, remodeling projects and questions about the materials we sell.

Deconstruction Volunteer Opportunities (Monday & Tuesday)
The Deconstruction Crew goes out into the community and removes cabinets, fixtures, flooring and even walls in an effort to reuse as much of a building as possible before demolition or remodeling. The materials salvaged are sold to the general public through the Habitat ReStore. We are in need of volunteers who can be available and ‘on-call’ to work when we get the go-ahead for a job. Training, safety information, and all tools needed to complete the job will be provided.

If you would like more information about volunteering at the Habitat ReStore, please contact the volunteer coordinator, Kathleen Van Den Wymelenberg. You may reach her by phone at 661-2813 or by email: kathleen@restoredane.org

lunteer Coordinator at 661-2813 for a store tour and interview.
