Women Build -- Building more homes for those in need
Construction on 2010 Women Build Home began this month; home on Northside of Madison in Northport Commons. Dane County's seventh Women Build home started this month with a five week framing frenzy. Construction days will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturday through Aug. 7. Building will then move to two days a week on Fridays and Saturdays. All build days are from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. We ask that volunteers commit to a full day whenever possible. No experience necessary! Please join women from the Dane County community to build a home from the Braxton/James family. The build site is located on Madison’s north side near the intersection of Northport Drive and Kennedy Road. Volunteer Opportunities Skilled Crew Leaders -- We are looking for skilled crew leaders who would be willing to lead volunteers on the Women Build home. To find out more about this year’s Women Build Habitat family please contact Megan Kenney at 608-255-1549, ext 104. Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity of Dane County program that trains women to build homes and to help women address the problem of substandard housing and its effects on the health and well-being of children. Much more than a simple home construction project, the Women Build brings individuals and groups of women together to create something very special while engaging in activities that inspire a sense of community as well as personal accomplishment. When women come together in a supportive environment, the results are amazing! Thousands of houses have been built by women crews around the world. Since Women Build was formed in 1998, more than 1,400 homes have been built by women crews. In Dane County, the sixth Women Build project was completed in December, 2008 for the Kalisa-Uwamahoro family in the Twin Oaks subdivision in Madison. For more information about future Women Build projects, e-mail or call 255-1549.
